A sensory companion for everyday activities

A cotton weighted lap pillow can be used during seated activities such as reading, table exercises and therapy sessions. It can also accompany feeding, doctor appointments, car journeys or playtime. The cotton texture and weighted feel offer a way to explore localised pressure before considering a larger weighted item such as a blanket.

Every person's response to weighted sensory tools is different. Choose how and when to use the pillow around the individual user's comfort and needs, rather than expecting a guaranteed change in attention or relief from anxiety, joint pain or restless legs.

What weight should I choose?

There is no single established weight that is suitable for everyone. Our existing general guideline is a weight up to 10% of body weight, as with a weighted blanket, but this is not an individual recommendation. Ask an occupational therapist or another qualified professional for advice on a suitable weight and use, particularly for a child.

Weighted lap pillows are generally used for shorter periods. The user should be able to remove the pillow and communicate when they want to stop using it. If you are choosing pillows for a larger group, consider a range of weights to accommodate different users.

The cotton has a weight of 260 gsm. It is sturdy, durable and becomes softer with use. The fabric is Oeko-Tex certified.
